Walmart Offers a Great Bargain for Young Beaders

If you have a daughter who wants to start making handmade jewelry, Walmart has a nice value priced set that provides everything a beginner needs for less than $20.

The set was one of the featured Black Friday items, but it still available for sale online and in many retail locations.

The contents of the set are supposedly valued at $70, although I think that assessment is stretching the truth a bit. However, it’s still a fairly significant cost savings over buying all of the tools, findings, and beads individually.

I really like that this set includes a bead board, since many beading kits leave out this item. Having a board to lay out your design is a necessity if you want to avoid having piles of beads end up all over the carpet. (When I started jewelry making, I didn’t buy a bead board immediately. Once I dropped a container of seed beads on my bedroom floor, I realized how important a bead board is.)

This jewelry making gift set comes in several different color options, including red, pink, orange, and turquoise. All of the sets have the same tools, so only the beads are different.

For a beginning beader, I think it’s preferable to have a few coordinating sets of beads instead of a bunch of mismatched beads that don’t really come together in any cohesive design.

The kit should be enough on its own to get your child started, but a plastic storage container for her supplies would be a good idea just to make sure none of the small parts of the kit get lost before she has a chance to use them.
