The Kat Von D Autograph Liner Makes Makeup Application Almost Effortless

There’s a reason that this eyeliner has over 1500 reviews and 4.5 stars on Sephora. It’s so easy to use, even a novice can apply a cat eye (or any other basic liner style) well after a try or two. The color’s not bad, either.

Unless you’re only shopping at drugstores for your liquid liners, the price isn’t bad, either. Certainly better than some of the ones in the $30 to $40 range that can also be found at Sephora, plus the packaging is prettier. This one is $16.

The Autograph liner really does feel like a pen when you use it. The bristles on the brush are just flexible enough to feel good and lie flat against the lashes when you begin to deposit the color at the roots and drag it across. It’s wet and opaque enough to only require one pass, too, so you’re not going to scrape previously applied color off as you try over and over again to make it darker and solid (who else hates when liners’ usually felt tip drag through the liner and make a skin tone pinstripe right down the middle?).

I bought Puro Armor, which is described as a matte jet black. They got the jet black right, and there is no shimmer, but I wouldn’t call it matte, exactly. There’s still a bit of a sheen, but it’s nothing attention-grabbing or especially out of the ordinary when it comes to liquid liners.

True matte would have been out of the ordinary and I wish it really did have that finish, but the rich color and opacity combined with ease of use make that minor detail forgivable.

I haven’t had any problems with wear time on this, nor have I had trouble with smudging or running. My allergies have been under control for the most part, so it’s been staying put and lasting through normal wear from morning until night.
