Two style experts reveal some great beauty products that you can find for under $15.
I thought nothing could compare or ever match the Lorac Pro palette, which I’ve been obsessed with for quite a while now, but they designed a second one with cooler tones.
Guess what? Just as good.
The pigmentation is incredible. The longevity is borderline annoying, it’s so good (okay, so it’s only annoying when you’re swatching on your hand in the store). As before, there are 16 shades to mix and match.
This palette has cooler tones than the last one, including a rich navy and plum that stick around well even without primer (but you do get a small tube of primer when you buy the palette). There are also some warmer tones you can use to achieve balance, like a gorgeous metallic rose-gold shade that looks incredible on blue eyes, but the palette skews cool overall.
There’s a 50/50 mix of matte and light-reflecting shades. The “shimmer” isn’t glitter at all, and the shadows just have a delicate sheen that brightens up the eye area. You can do anything, from the most natural of looks to more dramatic smoky ones. The deepest shades are even pigmented enough to use as eyeliner.
The packaging is sleek and minimalist, just like the first palette’s, but this time it’s gray instead of black. There’s a handy mirror, so you can apply your shadow without sitting at a vanity or standing in front of a bathroom mirror (which really comes in handy if you’re in a hotel on vacation or you try to get ready in the mornings at the same time as your spouse!).
I think I may personally prefer the first palette slightly more, but it all boils down to your coloring. They both have the same high quality, pigmented shadows and you can’t go wrong with either of them.

Ever see a beauty product in the store and wish you could just try it before you buy it? Beauty Blogger Nicole Townsend says you just have to know who and how to ask.
I tend to favor bold lipstick over elaborate eye makeup, but I’m very pleased with the Love In Paris Eye Shadow Palette from NYX Cosmetics.
The Love in Paris Eye Shadow Palette is a collection of nine shades packaged in a slim compact featuring a cute little bow clasp. There are 12 different color collections to choose from, each with a full range of coordinated colors for you to play with.
The palette I sampled was called Je Ne Sais Quoi, which features brown, cream, silver, and plum shades. This palette has a nice mix of matte and shimmery eye shadows, so you can create day and evening looks. The colors are richly pigmented and did an excellent job of flattering my brown eyes.
The palette comes with a dual side sponge application. One side features a larger sponge for covering more of the eye area, while the other side has a narrower sponge to use for defining fine details.
Primer is helpful when using the NYX eyeshadow palettes if you want your color to last all day long. You can also help open up your eyes by adding a small touch of the lightest color of your eyeshadow palette into the inside corner of your eye. This makes your eyes look wider and more awake, which is always a plus when you’re a sleep deprived mom!
