Kinetic Sand Promises Hours of Creative Fun for Your Kids

At first glance, Kinetic Sand looks like something you’d pick up on the beach. However, this is anything but ordinary sand.

Kinetic Sand is a futuristic modeling material that is made from real sand and a special binding agent that holds the granules together so you can cut and mold it into a variety of simple shapes and sculptures.

Kinetic Sand is advertised as being dust free and leaving no messy residue. I haven’t had a chance to try this toy out personally, but I’m all for anything that promises to be a cleaner alternative to Play-Doh. I also like the idea that Kinetic Sand never dries out. When my son was little, it seemed like we were constantly replacing his Play-Doh because someone forgot to seal the containers tightly.

Kinetic Sand is non-toxic, so it won’t hurt your child if he accidentally ingests some. However, I would imagine that it probably tastes terrible since it is mostly made from real sand.

Fat Brain Toys had Kinetic Sand listed as its top toy pick for the 2013 Christmas season. They recommend Kinetic Sand for children ages 3 and up, but I can see this being fun to play with even as an adult. The WABA Toys video makes it look very soothing to experiment with!

I’ve had seen several reviewers describe Kinetic Sand as similar to Moon Sand, but less messy and more versatile. If you’re going to get your toddler or preschooler a sand table for Christmas, Kinetic Sand looks like it would be a great alternative to filling the table with traditional sand.

Have you had a chance to try out Kinetic Sand? If so, what did you think?
