Tumtee Shirts Help Make Tummy Time Fun

Tumtee shirts are for mom to wear and baby to experience. They are designed to encourage baby to feel the graphics on the shirt while mom recites a matching nursery rhyme.

The goal of Tumtee shirts is to help moms make tummy time more exciting for their babies. Tummy time is an essential part of helping to avoid flat head syndrome (plagiocephaly), but many babies don’t enjoy this activity.

The idea for Tumtee shirts came after co-creator Kristen Gibbons noticed that her son Grayson was fascinated with the design on her shirt while he was doing tummy time on her stomach.

“The ultimate aim of Tumtee is to encourage moms to hold, interact, and bond with their babies,” Gibbins said. “With so many baby contraptions available, it’s easy to forget that we should be holding our babies and interacting directly with them instead of relying on swings, bouncy seats and strollers to keep them entertained.”

There are currently three different Tumtee designs, all of which are shown in the photo accompanying this post. They come in XS through XL sizes. Based on the picture and product description, I’m assuming they’re intended to have a somewhat loose fit.

I like the idea of Tumtee shirts, but I wish they were less expensive. As a perpetually cash-strapped parent, saving for my son’s needs always comes first. Spending $38 on a t-shirt for myself would have been unlikely during his first year, especially since my weight was all over the place and I hardly left the house.

What do you think of these shirts? If you have a little one at home, would you buy a Tumtee shirt to make tummy time more entertaining?
