Putting a New Spin on a Favorite Lego Set

If you’re looking for a new LEGO idea book for your child, The LEGO Build-It Book: Amazing Vehicles is an excellent choice. This handy volume encourages kids to build new models with the LEGO bricks they have, instead of begging for expensive new sets.

There are 10 featured models in the Amazing Vehicles book:

  1. Off-Roader
  2. Go-Kart
  3. Muscle Car
  4. Stroller
  5. Multi-Purpose Truck
  6. Historic Racer
  7. Classic Car
  8. Wheel Loader
  9. Street Rod
  10. Rescue Truck

All models featured in the book were designed by Nathanaël Kuipers and Mattia Zamboni. A Dutch design professional who worked as a product developer for the LEGO Group in Denmark, Kuipers was responsible for creating multiple LEGO Technic models. Mattia Zamboni is a Swiss graphic designer with a lifelong passion for LEGO art.

I like this LEGO idea book because it seems to use very basic pieces that my son has a lot of and there’s a handy chart of every piece that is used in the beginning of the book. My son gets frustrated when we’re looking at idea books and he can’t find the right pieces to build what is being featured. (Actually, if you have the LEGO CREATOR Super Speedster set #5867, you have all the bricks you need and you won’t have to do any sorting or digging before you begin.)

The instructions for each vehicle are clear and easy to follow. Kids ages eight and up should be able to put together everything without a lot of adult assistance as long as they’ve played with LEGO bricks a bit in the past.

The finished vehicles are fun to play with and display. Stick a minifigure behind the wheel and you have hours on entertainment for a LEGO loving child.

The LEGO Build-It Book: Amazing Vehicles sells for $19.95 on the No Starch Press website. You can also buy The LEGO Build-It Book: More Amazing Vehicles, a sequel with an additional 10 models to create.

Well, $20 for Lego instructions for a few vehicles seems a little expensive, but I applaud the idea of designs for kids with lots of pieces for a bunch of other kits to use in new ways.
