Nap Nanny To Help Baby Sleep

by admin on May 5, 2010

The Nap Nanny baby recliner is an excellent option for babies who do not like to sleep. The inclined position helps to comfort infants who may have colic, reflux, gas colds and flu… or even those with more serious health issues, like Cerebral Palsy, heart conditions or G-tube feeders. Or simply for babies who like to sleep in a more seated position because, afterall, babies can be picky about where and how they sleep.

The Nap Nanny is a foam positioner that elevates your baby 30 degrees, which is recommended by many doctors. The “Child Security” foam design cradles your tot while a safety harness keeps them securely in place.

Many moms have used the Nap Nanny and found excellent results. Sandra Bullock’s son Louis is pictured sleeping in one in this month’s issue of People Magazine. Other celebrity fans include Chad Lowe and Kim Painter, Marissa Winokur and Tisha Campbell-Martin who wrote, ”I love the Nap Nanny. It makes me feel safer when my son is in it”

Righteous Kill Producer Lati Grobman has found the Nap Nanny incredibly helpful as she juggles triplets, “The Nap Nanny is a miracle device. I can plop Jonathan, Daniel or Dylann on it and instantaneously they are calm or fall asleep on a safe place. Nothing like a little piece of mind for me and a piece of heaven for them.”

The Nap Nanny was created by Comcast SportsNet reporter Leslie Gudel when the sleep deprived mom‘s new baby wouldn’t sleep flat. She went searching for a solution and when she couldn’t find one, she invented it.

It is even recommended by pediatricians and nurse practitioners. JJ Levinson has been a practicing pediatrician in the Los Angeles area for nearly 20 years, “I have to unequivocally say that all parents have been thrilled with the quantum changes in mood (all for the better) that their babies experienced after using the Nap Nanny.

The Nap Nanny costs $132 at Amazon.

UPDATE (11/2011): There have been several reports about potential safety problems with the Nap Nanny. Please make sure you research the most up to date information on this product before purchasing it.

Put a motor in it that helps it jiggle a little, and this will be a hit. How many times did you walk up and down the halls with the baby in the stroller, trying to get it to sleeep or sit in a rocking chair for hours, until you just couldn’t sit anymore? Add a little movement to this and then it will really be the answer for fussy babies.

I wish this came in my size, lol! … looks so comfy. :)

I would have loved this when my kids were babies. After they outgrow it you could always use it for a cool doggie bed. It looks sooooo soothing to just lie there. I bet it feels like they are being cradled. Dreamy!!

I heard on the news today a baby suffocated sleeping in the nap nanny

a baby died sleeping in this nap nanny, why wont you let people know that this thing is danerous

  • Becca

I think a car seat would be the same position, and a lot safer!

  • Stephanie

Unfortunately car seats are also dangerous and up the chance of SIDS I have heard. There doesn’t seem to be any clear best bets for how to sleep a baby sitting upright. We used a baby bouncer seat for my son until he was about 3.5 months and was finally comfortable sleeping on his back, he had really bad reflux. I felt better about that than a car seat, I think each parent needs to weigh the pros and cons and consult your pediatrician (maybe even two or three) until you find a solution you are comfortable with.

Babies can die no matter how careful you are or what safety devices you have in place. I would almost guarantee that if babies are dying in the nap nanny, the beds are being used irresponsibly. You don’t put a baby in this and go away for hours or cover he baby with too many blankets, or leave it where an older child or pet can tip it upside down or knock it off the table. If I carry my baby downstairs and trip and fall which causes me to drop my baby and the baby dies, headlines would be “Baby dies while being carried downstairs” and mothers everywhere would panic if they had to take a baby downstairs. Dig deeper – there’s more to that infant death than a healthy baby sleeping near his/her mommy in a nap nanny!

The Nap Nanny made my life as a new mom so much easier, because my baby slept so much better in it! In regards to the report of a baby dying in a Nap Nanny, the parents were using it incorrectly. The Nap Nanny was placed inside a crib, which it specifically says not to do. It is sad, but also not the fault of the Nap Nanny.

  • Maandpajake

Wish they made this when my children were babies.  One had colic and one had reflux.  Not an easy feat to raise the head of a crib ro prevent back in 1968.

  • Aimee0474

I would have killed to get one of these when my kids were babies (only 5 and 8 years ago). They both had horrible reflux. My oldest would scream for 10 – 12 hours a day and refused to sleep if she could fight it off. I think this would have helped!

  • Gracie

I want a big one of these for me!!

  • Darbydesiree

to bad they are foam, foam off gasses toxic chemicals.

Nap Nanny has been recalled again.

Not sure what pediatrician would recommend something like this when the American Acadamy of Pediatrics has a statement that the best place for a baby to sleep in in their crib on their back. A car seat, swing, and bouncer seat is not adequate or recommended for sleeping. I have had a premature infant with reflux and spent many nights up with him and would have given anything for him to sleep comfortably in his crib rather than me holding him. I have seen in severe case recommendations to place one foldedtowel under the crib mattress to slightaly elevate it, but that is it. The AAP doesn’t put statements out there without exhausting research and the AAP is what pediatricians base their practice on.
