MAC Amorous Is Possibly the Sexiest Lip Color for Fall

Amorous from MAC Cosmetics isn’t a new lip color, but it’s new to me. It’s a relief to know that it isn’t in one of their fleeing limited edition collections, especially since those often sell out within minutes of being online (and sometimes products don’t make it more than a day at the counters).

This is a part of the regular MAC lipstick collection, in the black bullet-shaped tubes, so I was able to get it for free through the Back-2-MAC program (turn in six empty MAC containers to their recycling program and get a free lipstick). The regular price is $15.

I can see this satin plummy-pink working on just about any skin tone, with any hair color, and with any outfit except for the ones that have very warm tones right next to your face (and even then, you might be able to pull it off). This color has a lot of depth to it, but it isn’t brown at all.

It plays tricks on my eyes when I try to decipher exactly what it is about this color that makes it work with just about everything. It’s as if there are blue and brown undertones that balance each other out, but neither is so present that you notice it at first. It’s a medium plum, taken back to a more wearable territory with a shot of not-too-bright pink.

There’s no real shine to the color, but it’s not a flat matte, either, and it performs like a neutral shade. I can wear a light layer of it as easily as I can wear a nude, but it can be intensified to a sexy, opaque, vampy shade that will be gorgeous on those rare date nights with a neutral eye look or even a subtle smoky one. You can even find a middle ground between barely-there and vixen that’s perfect for daytime events when you want to look polished.

Amorous isn’t as drying as a matte lipstick, but it’s not exactly moisturizing, either. I suggest applying a light layer of lip balm to your lips first, letting it soak in, and then applying the lipstick. When I do it this way, I can easily go around four hours (if I’m not eating or drinking a lot) before I need to touch up the color.
