My husband has a horrible habit: he bites his nails. It drives me totally crazy and I cannot stand it when he watches TV and mindlessly bites his nails. And the best part about this? My 3 year old son has started doing it too. So I was very glad to find Mavala Stop.

Mavala offers a great polish that helps break this yucky habit. It’s a transparent polish that has a distinct bitter taste that discourages kids (and adults!) from nail biting or putting their fingers in their mouths. It tastes horrible, but is completely harmless.

All you have to do is apply a coat on the nail and let it dry. Then repeat the application every two days until you have broken the habit of biting your nails.

Mavala polish is recommended for children who are 3 years or older because children’s taste buds are not fully developed before this age and the product may not be effective. It can be used alone or over color. It’s also recommended for kids who suck their thumbs. I did read in a few reviews that you have to be careful though because the kids will taste it anytime they put their fingers in their mouths (like while eating).

Am I going to try it? I’m not sure. It seems kind of mean and I hate to think that every time he eats he will end up tasting the polish as well. It is reasonably priced (around $10), and I guess I could take it off if it really bothers him.

What do you think? Should I try Mavala Stop? Do you have any other suggestions I could try first?

When it comes to kids ruining their teeth with suching fingers, and nasty habits like nail biting, I would go for it. Disgusting, but it works. I hope it works soon, and my kids stops his nail biting soon enough.

Why don’t you have your husband try it first? He can tell you what it’s like, and if the habit is strong for him, see if it’s effective for him. Then try it on your child. Best break this habit early, before it gets really gross, painful, and unhygienic.

i was a nail biter and i still am. my parents tried all kids of things and nothing heped but ESPECIALLY not bitter nail polish, bite with your teeth and don’t braceyour finger on your tongue and nothing bothers you.

I use it to stop biting my nails. I’m a 33 year old married lawyer with two and a half kids.

My wife and I can taste it on everything I touch. Including her.

Good incentive to stop. Temporarily. Unfortunately, the habit itself is a bit harder to break than some ass tasting synthetic chemical that one paints on ones nails.

one this page http://hairnskin.org/?p=6 it say it should be used for children 3 years and younger. Can i use it for my 2 year old daughter

I used to bite my nails. I found an easy way to stop. I just trimmed my nails very short and kept them that way. You can’t bite when there’s nothing to bite.

I’m willing to try anything for it. My grandson even bites his toe nails. Now that is gross. Thanks for the information. BSS
