An Intriguing Look at the Animals of North America
If your children love animals, Curious Critters: Volume Two is a lovely addition to your home library. This book features a wide range of animals common to North America, including a great-horned owl, monarch butterfly, American alligator, nine banded armadillo, bluegill, gray squirrel, striped skunk, gold-green sweat bee, cave salamander, and Northern cardinal.
Each animal is given its own page, with large, full color photographs of the animal on a white background and a bit of descriptive text written in the voice of the animal. For example, the striped skunk gives as a limerick that reads:
My skunk reputation’s maligned.
On bees and small rodents I dine.
And the spray you fear,
coming out of my rear,
I think odoriferously fine!
The back of the book contains a few key facts about each animal and a glossary of nature terms.
The photographs in Curious Critters are absolutely stunning. Even as an adult reader, I found myself drawn to the amazing images of each featured animal. The text next to each animal offers a whimsical way to encourage the reader to contemplate each critter’s unique personality.
Curious Critters: Volume Two was written and photographed by David FitzSimmons. David teaches at Ashland University and leads workshops across North America. He is the father of three girls.
