An Inspiring Look At The Annie Moses Band

Posted on Dec 3, 2013 by No Comments

I am a huge fan of memoirs in general, but I especially love stories about women with amazing families. The Song of Annie Moses, written by Robin Wolaver, details the story of how her family came to be known as one of the most popular acts in Christian music entertainment.

Robin has a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Oklahoma City University. She lives in Nashville, Tennessee with her husband Bill and their six children: Annie, Alex, Benjamin, Camille, Gretchen, and Jeremiah. Together, the family comprises The Annie Moses Band. They perform at venues all across America. (The name of their band comes from Robin’s maternal grandmother, Annie Moses.)

Even though I’m not particularly religious, I found The Song of Annie Moses to be an inspiring story. It’s impressive that Robin was able to overcome the challenges of being born into poverty to raise six children who were talented enough to study at the Julliard School and perform at Carnegie Hall while all managing to stay really close as a family.

I think the story of a mother who is determined to nurture her child’s gifts is something any woman can relate to, regardless of your personal spiritual beliefs.

If you’re interested in teaching your own children to develop their musical skills, there’s a lengthy section in the back of the book offering tips for finding a good teacher, making the most of practice sessions, and creating a coalition of people who can provide support along your child’s musical journey.
