I guess you can say that I am a sucker for product reviews, both for writing and reading them. I always check out reviews about a certain product and the company behind it before making a purchase, especially for products for my baby. So when a friend of mine had the Fisher-Price Starlight Papasan Cradle Swing in her baby shower registry list, I couldn’t help but check out some reviews on it before purchasing it altogether. And guess what? Two weeks later, here I am with my own review about it.
Fisher-Price is a well-known company that specializes in products for children and manufactures products specifically designed for the baby’s age. You can find products ranging from toys, baby clothes, high chairs, baby monitors, strollers, playards, and almost anything you can think of that you’ll need when taking care of a baby.
Fisher-Price also offers products both parents and their children will love. Parents are given plenty of choices in terms of color, fabrics, and other materials used in the products. These products are also very durable and with proper care, can definitely be passed on to other children in the family. Kids will definitely enjoy the toys and other products from Fisher-Price, as these are specifically designed to meet the needs of their specific age group. I grew up playing with plenty of Fisher-Price toys myself, and this is a brand I have personally come to trust. And since the company has been around since 1930, who doesn’t?
What is a Papasan Chair?
OK, I can feel some of you out there snickering at me, but I didn’t know what a papasan chair was. So I did some research and found out that a papasan chair is a chair shaped somewhat like a bowl and whose angle can be adjusted depending on the need to. It is also called a mamasan chair and a moon chair, and is great for small babies because it gives them that snuggled feeling all over, kind of like being in a cocoon. Fisher-Price combined the snugness of the papasan chair plus the functionality of a swing in one, hence the Fisher-Price baby papasan cradle swing was born.
What to Look for When Buying a Cradle Swing
Some people may wonder if having a cradle swing is really necessary, and the short answer is yes. Babies spend most of their time sleeping and feeding, and it is through sleep where they get the much-needed opportunity to grow.
If there is always a lot noise, activity, and other distracting situations around your house, your baby may become fidgety and cranky. With an infant swing, your baby can have their own quiet corner where they can relax and sleep as much as they need to. This also makes nap time and pretty much taking care of your baby a whole lot easier. The friend I bought the Fisher-Price Starlight Papasan Cradle Swing for swears that as soon as she puts her baby down in the cradle swing, he’s out like a light!
As with any parent, the safety and sturdiness of the baby swing, or any other baby furniture at that is top priority. So here are some of the things to look for when buying a cradle swing:
Swing features or options
Speed options of the swing
A safety harness
Music to play while the baby is inside the baby swing
The sturdiness and stability of the baby swing
Side to Side, Front to Back
With the Fisher-Price Starlight Papasan Cradle Swing, your baby can be lulled to sleep in either a side to side or a front to back swinging motion. This helps soothe baby a lot better compared to other baby swings that swing the baby in only one direction, which they will get tired of eventually.
Faster or Slower?
Not all infant swings give you the option to choose how fast or how slow you want the swing to be, and the Fisher-Price Starlight Papasan Cradle Swing gives you the freedom to do so. There are times when you want your baby swing to move really slow, just to make sure your baby continues to sleep and doesn’t wake up unnecessarily. Or, there are also times when you want the baby swing to go faster especially with you sitting where your baby can see you making faces to make those little baby giggles come out. Depending on what speed you need, this Fisher-Price baby swing has it.
Baby Stays Put All the Time
With the safety harness that comes with the Fisher-Price Starlight Papasan Cradle Swing, you can rest assured that your baby stays put in the cradle swing all the time. The safety harness doesn’t just keep your baby glued to the seat – it also makes sure your baby’s legs are as comfortable as possible, giving their little legs enough room to move in, but not enough to get them out of the seat. This specific infant swing is recommended for babies up to 25 pounds, and can be used until the baby is old enough to climb out of a seat.
Day and Night Time Music
The Fisher-Price Starlight Papasan Cradle Swing comes with a total of 16 songs – half of which are for daytime, and the other half for night. Two of the 16 songs that come with this infant swing are long playing, perfect for when baby is already asleep so that you don’t have to always stand up and reset the songs.
Safety, Stability, and Sturdiness
Like other Fisher-Price baby swings we have come to know and love, the Fisher-Price Starlight Papasan Cradle Swing comes with a sturdy steel frame that securely holds the papasan seat in place. It will not accidentally tip over or fall whether the seat is swinging or not. But as I mentioned above, the chair is only good for babies up to 25 pounds (that’s 11.3 kilograms) and if your baby already knows how to climb out of a chair, then that’s the time he or she has already outgrown it.
Other Cool Features
I know I already said a lot about the features of the Fisher-Price Starlight Papasan Cradle Swing, but since I like it so much, here are other cool features I’m sure other parents out there would appreciate knowing:
The Fisher-Price Starlight Papasan Cradle Swing helps stimulate your baby’s senses in more ways than one. The mobile and the moving stars helps enhance baby’s visual tracking skills, so that he/she can learn how to follow a moving object around with his/her eyes. The songs and sound effects help enhance baby’s hearing skills, not to mention the removable toy tray that can be attached to the seat which helps enhance baby’s grasping skills.
Parents will love the Fisher-Price Starlight Papasan Cradle Swing as much as their baby does! The sturdy steel frame can easily be folded and tucked away when the cradle seat isn’t in use, and the seat pad in the papasan chair is machine-washable. So just in case your baby spills something on it, just pop it in the washing machine and you’re good to go!
Babies love mirrors, and the Fisher-Price Starlight Papasan Cradle Swing has an overhead mirror which adds to the many accessories that will surely keep your baby entertained for hours!
Parents can adjust how their baby is seated because the Fisher-Price Starlight Papasan Cradle Swing has two seating positions to choose from – great for when you’re just soothing a cranky baby or putting them to sleep.
The Fisher-Price Starlight Papasan Cradle Swing can be operated by plugging it into any wall outlet with the AC adaptor included in the package, or by using 4 D batteries which are not included.
There are 5 other colors available for the Fisher-Price cradle swing (although obviously starlight is my favorite). The Butterfly Garden comes in pink and features, as the name suggests, is a butterfly garden theme with a matching light show. The Mocha Butterfly comes in an adorable pink color with brown accents that will surely match any home. My Little Lamb comes in white with cute little lambs in the mobile, a great gift if you’re unsure if the baby is a boy or a girl. Nature’s Touch features little leaves to keep your baby entertained from above, and has an earthy look to it. The other Nature’s Touch color features a bird, butterfly, and a dragonfly in the motorized mobile compared to the leaves in the other one.

What Others are Saying
Don’t just take my word for it. Here are what other happy customers have to say about it:
A wonderful swing
A great buy
There was one customer who complained about having to get up and restart the music every few minutes or so because the music and the mobile stops automatically. After a few days, she realized that there were 2 long playing songs, and she could choose to have just the music on or just the swing on once the baby was already asleep. Plus, according to her, the auto-shut off actually wasn’t a disadvantage – it helped save her batteries!
