My son recently started preschool, and of course we sit down at dinner and ask him what he learned. “I don’t remember” is his normal response. He’s not really one for conversation, I guess! That’s why I love the idea of YourChatMat.

YourChatMats have been designed to help jump-start meaningful mealtime interaction. Each mat has a variety of conversation starters including questions, quotes, dares, facts and ideas. Subjects range from serious to silly, thought-provoking and self-reflective to outrageous and goofy. There are a several mats to choose from and each mat was designed to include everybody, no matter what the age or taste. Since studies show that the more families sit down together and participate in meaningful communication, the more likely the kids are to develop a solid sense of self esteem, I think YourChatMats is worth considering adding to your family table.

The sets include Family chat mats, elementary chat mats, and party chat mats. When you purchase the mats, you will receive either 4 laminated or twelve paper mats to a set. Each mat measures 17.5 x 12 inches. You’ll find that no question is repeated within a set, and no repetition means more conversation.

YourChatMats are proudly made in the USA with high quality coated paper from sustainable sources and BPA-free plastic. So even though you might be throwing away those paper mats, you can feel good that they are made from 30% post-consumer recycled content.

I think that this is a fun way to get everybody chatting at the dinner table! Right now my little ones don’t even sit still during a meal, so this might be a good way to keep them engaged. What do you think? Would this be fun for your family?

We have something similar; a set of cards with family dinner table conversation starters that we pull out once in a while. Questions like which would be your favorite superpower and why? promote some great talks!

I think this is great. I also feel that I’m not doing it enough, with my husband on a different schedule than the kids, and the notorious computer robbing my attention away from the kids, I need to make more conversation.
I wonder if i can look up conversation starters online also. I happen to have plenty, it’s just time that I lack. Rather, focus. Where do you purchase that?
