Have you ever stopped to think about how much of your life is spent dealing with digital files? Even if you exclude memos, reports, and work presentations, you still probably spend a ton of time dealing with things like digital photos, mp3 files, ebooks, and banking records. Secure storage for all these files keeps you from going into crisis mode if something ever happens to your computer.
Victorinox, the same company that makes the Swiss Army knife, recently released a line of USB flash drivers that are unhackable. Storage capacities range from 4GB to 64GB. The basic models in the Victorinox Flash Collection are just a flash drive on a key chain, but the fancier versions include all of the other nifty Swiss Army knife tools that are handy to have around.
What I really like about this USB drive is that the slim case is amazingly durable. The last flash drive I was using had a plastic protective cap that I lost about a month after I purchased the flash drive. Then, the drive was accidentally smashed when it got wedged between two very heavy boxes on a table in my office. After that, it never worked quite right.
I haven’t purposely tried to smash this flash drive, but even comparing the two side by side I can see that the Victorinox drive has a much sturdier construction. There’s no cap to lose and even when it’s at the bottom of my purse I feel like my data is protected.
Although I’ve been using the Victorinox flash drive for myself, I can see how this would be a great gift for the man in your life or for an older child who needs secure storage for his or her schoolwork. (Although, if you’re buying this for a child, you should definitely stick to the version that doesn’t include the Swiss Army knife tools in order to avoid trouble with school policies regarding weapons.)
