What happens when you take a classic and turn it into art? The U-Paint-It Piggy Bank, which, if your kid’s like mine, will provide multiple sessions of entertainment.
My daughter has painted the bank quite a few times, always going back to add something new. She mostly limited herself to the six pots of paint that come with it (along with a brush and varnish), but you could use stickers, markers, ribbons, jewels—whatever you can find in your crafting stash—to create themes or just an especially unique design that matches your child’s personality.
Though this is a fun art activity, it comes with a lesson. We’ve taught our daughter to save her money for some of the more expensive toys she always wants us to buy her on a whim. She loves when her grandparents give her quarters or dollar bills and she can tuck them into the bank. When the time comes to go shopping, the rubber stopper comes right out. (No breaking this one to get to the cash like some of the older piggy banks!)
For around $10, this is a pretty kid-friendly craft that you can either participate in or leave them to their own devices with (as long as you can trust them not to paint the walls and floor). There’s also a U-Paint-It Cow Bank that’s equally adorable.
