We got the Homedics Sound Spa Lullaby as a gift before our daughter was born, and we’re still using it today, nearly five years later. We barely used the projector for images on the walls and ceiling, but the sounds (lullabies, the ocean, rain, and heartbeat) are perfect for helping her drift off to sleep.
Her favorites have always been the ocean and rain sounds, and they help block out television noise, a barking dog, video games, conversations when there’s company over, and all other sounds that carry way too easily when a bedroom is next to a two-story living room.
You can set the timer for 15, 30, 45, or 60 minutes or just let it go all night. We like setting the timer for about an hour at night so our daughter will fall asleep, but we’ll be able to hear her clearly if she needs something through the night.
If we’re lucky enough to have her take a nap during the day, we just let it run for as long as she naps, so neighbors, dogs, and whatever we’re doing inside the house won’t wake her back up.
The projector has three different discs that produce vibrant, gorgeous pictures, but we found that they would keep her up rather than lulling her to sleep at night. Luckily, the two features work independently of each other.
Another thing that I like about this machine is the portability. We don’t need it so much anymore, but during the first two years of her life, if we traveled, this sound machine had to go with us or everyone would regret it. It’s lightweight (1.25 lbs) and small enough to fit into a suitcase without too much trouble.
