One of my son’s favorite cartoons is Dora the Explorer, and I’m amazed by how much Spanish he is picking up from the show! He has told me that he wants to learn to “talk like Dora,” which of course makes me very happy! Which is why I was also excited to learn about Little Pim.

Little Pim is a foreign language immersion series for babies, toddlers and preschoolers. The teaching method used in Little Pim DVDs and books was designed to make language learning both fun and accessible to young children. Each theme-based video combines animation and real kids, teaching simple words and phrases for everyday activities through repetition. Little Pim is a cute panda bear who serves as the series’ teacher and guide to each child’s language learning adventure.

Each 35-minute DVD is segmented into seven, 5-minute episodes to accommodate a young child’s attention span and encourage pausing for parent interaction. But Little Pim doesn’t just teach children Spanish; there are videos available in French, Hebrew, Russian, Japanese, Italian and more! The DVD’s are priced at less than $20 each, and there is a variety of different gift sets available as well.

But there is also more than just Little Pim DVDs. You can purchase books, flash cards, CDs and interactive games. The Little Pim Books are brand new, and there are two of them currently available; FEELINGS and COLORS. Geared at kids ages 1-4, these books tell simple stories and are full of pull tabs, lift the flaps, and of course, Little Pim. The books are written in English, with French and Spanish words and phrases throughout, and include easy phonetics so that parents can use these even if they don’t speak the language themselves.

Little Pim is worth checking out. And if you sign up for their newsletter, they’ll even send you a discount code towards your purchase!

I’m digging the idea of these! Hope the production quality is good. Sounds like a great gift idea — kids love to learn and it’s so easy for them at this age!

I think it’s wonderful to have my babies know more than one language. It’s a gift to them.
