Every year, I am astonished by all of the options that are available for the back to school season. Trying to figure out what to buy usually sends me into a frenzy. I hate wasting money on items that fall apart after a few uses and it’s a pain to find replacement school supplies in January!

Last year, we had terrible luck with backpacks. My son went through three different backpacks by the time school was over. The zipper broke on the first one, the strap broke on the second one, and we ended up with a tiny tear in the bottom of the third one. So, I was thrilled by the opportunity to test out the Targus 16” C4 backpack.

Available colors include red/gray, blue/black, and green/black. Our sample bag was blue/black, which is his favorite color combination. My son is going into second grade, so the bag looks a little big on him. But, it seems to be very sturdy compared to the cheaper bags we normally buy.

I was worried that he’d be upset this bag didn’t have a cool cartoon character on it, but doesn’t seem to care about that. In fact, he was thrilled to have a back pack that looked like something a “big kid” would carry.

My son says his favorite part of this bag is that it has a lot of compartments. He often brings his lunch to school and we live in the Midwest where hats, gloves, snow pants, and snow boots are needed at recess for much of the year. This bag has enough compartments that he can stash his items safely away from his homework instead of having to carry two big bags like he did last year.

If you have an older child, this backpack is big enough to fit laptops up to 16 inches. There is also a side mesh pocket for a water bottle, if you have a child who carries one for after school sports.

Just based on my son’s use of this bag for his summer activities, I fully expect it to hold up throughout the school year.
