I love the look of knee high boots with skirts, but until recently I figured this was a fashion trend that was going to remain out of reach for me. Not only do I wear a size 10 shoe, I have very wide calves.

Even in high school, which was years before I started to have problems with my weight, my legs were thick and muscular. Sometimes this comes in handy, but it’s kind of a pain when you’re trying on boots in the store and most of them won’t zip up more than half way. I know there are specialty websites where you can order boots for women with wide calves, but these always seem to be priced way out of my budget.

These women’s Merona Kadens tall rider boots from Target caught my eye during a recent trip to Target. I impulsively decided to try them on and did a little happy dance in the middle of the aisle when they actually zipped up all of the way.

Aside from the fact that these are the first pair of tall boots I’ve ever found that fit properly, I like that they don’t have high heels. I can easily walk in them without worrying about tripping over my own feet, which as you all know is essential when you’re a mom chasing after active children. You can also roll down the top of the boot if you want, which makes them easier to wear with jeans.

These Merona boots are made of a pleather type material, so I’m not sure how well they’ll hold up over the long haul. But, they are super cute and well worth the price if you’re not planning on wearing them everyday.
