I know it’s hard to believe, but Christmas will be here before you know it. Since my family is still on a pretty tight budget, our holiday gifts tend to be of the simple yet thoughtful variety. One fun gift that goes over well with my family is personalized ornaments.

Last year, I had these ornaments from Shutterfly printed up with pictures of my son and his cousin. They arrived fairly quickly and my photos were just as vibrant as I expected. The ornaments themselves had a substantial feel to them, despite the relatively low price.

My mother adored her personalized Christmas ornaments and kept them on display throughout the year. She simply hung them from the branches of a topiary from Hobby Lobby and nobody could tell that they were intended to be Christmas ornaments.

If you don’t have any photos that you like well enough to put on an ornament, I’d suggest making ornaments featuring your child’s artwork. Simply scan and upload your son’s or daughter’s masterpiece before ordering your personalized ornaments.

Shutterfly ornaments come with a gold cord. My mother left the cord as-is on her ornaments, but I think I’d use a thin ribbon and add a bow at the top if I were using them to decorate my own tree.

Since packaging is an important part of any gift, I like to fold pretty origami boxes for small presents like personalized Christmas ornaments. My origami exploding box card tutorial on About Origami is perfect for giving a Christmas ornament.
