My son is blessed to have a number of relatives living very close by. If we ever moved further away from our extended family, A Story Before Bed would be a great resource. This website allows you to record yourself reading a special bedtime story, then send the video to the child of your choice.

As you might expect, there are tons of ways families can use this service. Parents who travel on business can record stories for the nights they are gone. Military servicemen and servicewomen can use it to help stay connected to their kids during long deployments. Divorced parents can use it to prevent homesickness when a child is staying with his/her other parent.

It’s also a wonderful way for grandparents to keep in regular contact with their grandchildren regardless of where they live. I can even see older kids having fun practicing reading stories to their favorite younger cousins using the A Story Before Bed service.

A Story Before Bed has 6, 12, and 24 month service plans as well as gift subscriptions. You can also choose to purchase books individually if you’d wish. There are currently 300 titles available in the library, but more books are being added on a regular basis.

You can search for books by the age of the child, the length of the book, the title, or the publisher. I tried the service during a special free promotion and found the whole process fairly straightforward. My son loved watching the finished recording.

Have you tried A Story Before Bed? If so, please share your thoughts!

I hadn’t heard of this service, but I have used the record a story books before and they are great. We did not have our little one while my husband was in Army but I would buy the recording ones for my friends before deployment. A service that is a subscription is an awesome idea! Better than just one book!
