If you’re looking for a cute activity to do with your children, Seedling’s “Create a Wooden People Family” kit fits the bill. This kit includes a wooden doll family, color pencils, felt pieces, fabric, craft glue, and thread.
Seedling sells a variety of craft kits that provide educational and creative opportunities for children ages 4-10. The kits include the supplies for the featured project, as well as instructions for mom and dad to help supervise.
Seedling craft kits are made in New Zealand and sold through a variety of online retailers, including Amazon.com. They are a bit pricey compared to purchasing the individual items from the store, but reviews seem to agree that all of the materials are very high quality. The nice packaging also makes for a cute birthday gift or special treat for your child.
What I like about the wooden family project in particular is that it’s easily customizable to fit your child’s interests. You could make a family that looks like your family or create a family from a favorite children’s book or television show.
When I asked my son what he’d do with this kit, he said he’d paint the people to look like a family of robots and play with them in his toy puppet theater.
Some of the items you could add to this kit to give your child more options in creating the figures include acrylic paint, glitter glue, buttons, pom poms, pipe cleaners, yarn, or beads.
When I’m crafting with my son, I like to keep a box of random odds and ends on the table just to see what interesting things he can come up with.
