Experts say the easiest way to save money while grocery shopping is to buy in bulk when products that you use regularly go on sale. And so I do. Chicken breasts, ground beef, and other perishable products can be dirt cheap if you shop at the right time of the month, but who needs 5 pounds of ground beef if you only use it occasionally? And that’s where Seal-a-Meal comes in.

You might remember Seal-a-Meal from the old infomercials. Well, Seal-a-Meal has come a long way, baby! The Seal-a-Meal Vacuum Food Storage System removes the air from specially-designed bags and canisters to seal air out and freshness in. The secure vacuum seal keeps food fresh up to 5 times longer than conventional storage methods. So just putting the meat in a plastic zip bag and trying to push all the air out is not exactly the best way to store foods and prevent freezer burn. I speak from experience.

Air is the devil when it comes to storing foods long term. Air causes oxidation, which robs food of fresh taste and can create “off” flavors and odors. I’m sure you know what I mean! It also can cause dehydration, which hardens foods (meats in particular) and can cause freezer burn. Exposure to air can cause mold, bacteria, and food spoilage as well.

And just look how long you can store foods using Seal-a-Meal products!

Seal-a-Meal saves you money, saves your food, and saves you time. You can prep and freeze meals in advance. You can store leftovers or even preserve wine. You can even seal and store meals in serving-sized portions for simple and effective portion control.

I think Seal-a-Meal is a winner! Have you tried any of the Seal-a-Meal products? Are you a fan?

I’ve never tried this but I do have an extra freezer in the garage and have been meaning to bulk up… hadn’t heard of this!

I buy food in bulk often and would love to have one of these!!! Also an extra freezer would be nice.

I do have a second fridge with freezer that I try to keep stocked. I buy bigger packages of meat (not quite “bulk sized”) and divide them up into single meal size servings and freeze. I do use the freezer bags and on occasion have had to toss some out.

I dont get you. Can I keep meat in the fridge for a long time, just be removing the air? Is it safe? And how much time am I actually gaining?
