Reusable Sandwich Bags? They Exist!

My son is starting preschool next month, and he is very excited about getting a lunch box. One of the things I’m not excited about is all those little plastic baggies he will be throwing away everyday.

Or not. Because guess what I found? Reusable sandwich bags made by Planet Wise! But before I tell you about the sandwich bags, let me tell you about Planet Wise because they are pretty incredible and sell more than just sandwich bags.

Planet Wise is a privately owned family corporation run by a husband and wife team. Their mission is to ensure the highest quality products while following responsible environmental and social business practices.

To reduce the environmental impact, they develop their products with the environment in mind…which automatically makes them safer for us as well! Their products are all PVC-free and lead-free (fact worth mentioning – many zippers have been painted using paint that contains lead).  All the products are reusable and have been designed to replace disposable items which help to reduce waste that ends up in the landfills.  Each product’s packaging is printed on recycled/recyclable paper using soy-based ink.

This is a company that I am so glad I found! Planet Wise products include items for babies, parents, and kids. But what caught my eye right off the bat were those sandwich bags.

Cute, huh? And they are great because you just use them and then wash them and they are ready to be used again! The bags are made from FDA food safe material, are PVC, BPA, phthalate, latex and lead Free, have a no leak design, and angled corners for easy cleaning.  They come in both snack and sandwich bag sizes (each for $7.99).

But they have so many other great products! Make sure to head over and check them out!

This site seems nice and earth friendly. But part of me wants to be able to throw away my kids bag after a rotten apple has been sweltering there the entire day. I’m not sure I’m up to washing snack bags every day. Perhaps my way of being Eco conscious would be to use paper bags instead of plastic?

    That’s a darn cute bag!

I use plastic containers with leak-proof seals. Our school insists on “boomerang lunches” which means that everything in the lunch box has to come home again, no garbage at school. So reusable containers are an essential. I wouldn’t mind using this adorable bag, either. Just shake out the crumbs, rinse, and dry for tomorrow. Very lightweight in the backpack!

What I am wondering is if you could throw these in the washer because that would be awesome. I usually have my daughter buy school lunch but I could still see myself using something like this when she wants to bring a lunch from home.
