Restoration Hardware Pharmacy Bath Cabinet

Here’s a novel idea – a locking medicine cabinet that holds more than a few tubes of toothpaste. With little ones running (and crawling) around, it’s a good idea to keep medicine and other dangerous things out of small hands. Only sometimes, it’s easier said than done. That’s why this locking cabinet from Restoration Hardware is so cool.

It’s a reproduction of a 19th century pharmacy cabinet that is made of hand-welded steel, glass and a locking door. Its super simple design fits in with even the most clean-lined aesthetic, so it’s beautiful. But what gets me is the lock!

SInce remodeling our bathroom is not gonna happen, I’ve been struggling with how to keep little hands away from all those bathroom things that little hands shouldn’t be touching. Like medicines, yes, but how about hair gel, shaving cream, and even Q-tips? Not that everything in a bathroom is toxic, it’s just that some things I’d rather not have my kids get their hands on.

Put them out of reach, you might say. Well, yes, but we don’t have room. See, our bathroom was made with NO storage. Seriously, NO storage. It’s a tiny space, really, so I’ve thought and thought and thought and have come up with nothing.

I currently keep non-toxic things in baskets on these small bookshelves that we shoehorned into the room and try to reinforce the “no touch” notion. But it wears on my nerves to constantly say “no no no”. I mean, I’d rather set my kid up for success and simply not let her have access to such things.

That’s where the Restoration Hardware locking cabinet comes in. Brilliant! No renovation needed, just a small key. Perfect for keeping small hands out.

Restoration Hardware has a large cabinet with 4 shelves, a small cabinet also with 4 shelves or a cabinet with 2 shelves and 5 drawers. Each cabinet has zinc hardware and tempered glass. At $1095 it’s pricey, I’ll admit. And, I would prefer if the legs were straight rather than curved at the bottom, but hey, beggars can’t be choosers.
