Readeo Book Chat Service

Someday, I’m going to have a brilliant idea that makes me millions of dollars so I can retire to a Tuscan villa.

Readeo is one of those ideas I wish I’d come up with, because it takes existing technology and transforms it into a wonderful application for families to use.

Readeo is a service that allows family and friends in different parts of the world to connect with the children in their lives through video books.

My parents live in Arizona. We live in Texas. Our kids, who are 5 and 7, only get to see their grandparents once a year, if they’re lucky. When we visit in person, one of the things my kids always insist on is that Grandma and Grandpa read them their bedtime stories each night.

Readeo allows my parents to still read my kids stories, even when we’re not in the same place.

Readeo combines video books with video chat so that family members can read a video book to children and see each other – all at the same time.

All you need is the Readeo service, a high-speed internet connection and a webcam.

I love that the distant relative gets to actually read the book to the child AND see their faces, interact and engage during the reading of the story. The picture above shows you what a BookChat session looks like. So cool!

For $9.99 per month, you get unlimited access to Readeo’s large library of children’s books. You also get unlimited BookChat sessions.

Guests, or friends/family of a member, get to read one Book of the Month selection for free, and engage in one BookChat per month for free.

There’s a money-back guarantee, too.

Right now the Readeo library has over 80 great children’s titles that are suited for kids from 0 to 8 years of age, and they add more titles each week.

Grandparents are always so hard to buy gifts for at the holidays. I know my folks would really appreciate the gift of being able to “see” their grandkids so much more than a new sweater or mug.

This would also be a great option for military families, wouldn’t it? There are many wonderful ways to use Readeo to connect. Readeo is currently running a 14-day free trial if you want to check it out.

So cute! I love the idea of soldiers on away missions reading to their kids back home. There are other ways to do this, but I guess you are paying to have the virtual books right there to choose from. Sweet idea.

I love this idea. With my parents living Farther than a a monthly visit away, and myself having read my children way too many childrens books, way to many times, this is lovely. It would be wonderful for me to have my dad read my children that “one more book, Mommy”.

Thank you for your article Gigi, we thrilled you found us!

Just one thing I wanted to make clear—only one side of a “BookChat” needs to pay. The free Guests, as long as they’re in a BookChat with a Member, can read all of the books in our library as many times as they want. So a grandparent, for example might buy a membership and read with all of their grandkids in different states. No need for anyone else to plunk down their change. I hope that makes sense!

If any of your readers would like to try it, I’d be happy to set them up with a free month. Just have them email me- brett at readeo com.
