Postcards from America Board Game
Remember the days when learning about geography meant poring over flashcards for hours on end?
Quick! What is the capital of South Dakota? What’s the state bird of Arizona?
I distinctly remember going over my state flashcards while my parents drove all over town doing God knows what.
Kids have it so easy now. Learning is much more interactive than it was in the 1970s and 1980s. Now kids learn by applying or getting information from games, puzzles, stories and more.
That’s why I’m itching to try this game from Geo Toys called Postcards from America.
Geo Toys makes puzzles, games and cards that are all designed to make geography more fun. Hurray!
In Postcards from America, players get 5 postcards, each with a different city. The object of the game is to “visit” all five of the cities represented on your postcards. Players travel around a game board by rolling the dice, which also has a side with an airplane on it, allowing players to “fly” to the next city. The first person to collect 10 postcards wins the game.
We have another geography game in our house right now, and my 7 and 5 year-olds cannot get enough of it – despite the fact that the game is designed for ages 8 and up. They love learning about geography. Who am I to question?
I imagine my kids would find this game equally fun. Postcards from America is for ages 6 and up, which means a 4 or 5 year-old could also probably play with adult help.
If you’re stumped on those geography quiz questions I gave you, give Postcards from America a try. It’s available for about $22 from Amazon.
