Every day, I fall more in love with Melissa & Doug products. The company never ceases to amaze me with its clever ideas. My most recent Melissa & Doug find was this great package of drawing paper for children.
Each sheet is printed with a fancy art gallery frame design around the edges. So, when your little Picasso is done, you can hang up the artwork for an adorable display that is easy to change as desired. For just $4.99, it’s a wonderful way to encourage your child’s artistic talents.
I picked up our Melissa & Doug picture frame pad at the local fair, where it was on a table of overpriced plastic souvenir crap. My son, while first annoyed that I refused to spend $19.95 on a flimsy toy sword, loved this paper set as soon as we opened it. He spent the entire night drawing happily and was thrilled to give some of his creations as presents for his grandparents the following day. The rest we taped up in the hallway so he could have his own “art museum” for kids.
The paper itself is of fairly high quality. It is suitable for crayons, colored pencils, and markers. My son doesn’t really enjoy painting, but I think you could use watercolors with this drawing pad if you taped the sheet to a flat surface first to keep it from wrinkling.
The paper in the Melissa & Doug picture frame pad measures 13.2″ x 11″ with the size of the actual drawing surface varying according to the frame design. Most seem to be somewhere in the range of an 8″ x 10″ opening. There are four sheets each of 12 different frame designs.
