Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, but I haven’t been too pleased with most of the maternity costumes I’ve seen. Like the costumes for non-pregnant women, they tend to all be on the short, skimpy, and uncomfortable side.
I find it hard to believe the average expectant mother wants to spend the night tottering around in high heels and a miniskirt. When I was pregnant, I lived in yoga pants and baggy t-shirts. Between dealing with exhaustion and the morning sickness that lasted all day, I wasn’t in the mood for any costume with a description that included the word “sexy.”
If I was in need of a maternity Halloween costume, this maternity baker outfit from Amazon is what I’d choose. The “Bun in the Oven Bakery” logo is a cute reference to pregnancy that’s still PG enough to be appropriate for a party that includes children. The outfit itself looks relatively comfortable and you’d easily be able to slip into whatever shoes don’t hurt your swollen feet at the time.
The maternity baker costume is fairly inexpensive, but you could actually make DIY version cheaply if you happen to already own a white shirt and/or white pants as part of your regular maternity wardrobe. All you’d need to do would be create a logo in an image editing program and then use inkjet iron on transfer paper to add the bun graphic to your shirt.
What do you think? If you attended a Halloween party while pregnant, what costume did you wear?
