Crayola may be best known for making crayons, but the company actually has a large assortment of toys to encourage a child’s creativity. At my house, the Color Explosion Spinner is one of the most popular.

Operating the Color Explosion Spinner is fairly easy. Use the enclosed marker to draw on the specially designed Color Explosion paper, then insert it into the Spinner. Turn the power on and adjust the speed as desired to make unique 3D effects. You can also use the bottle of liquid solution while the Color Explosion Spinner is running to make abstract designs on your paper. The Spinner lights up, so you’ll get the most dramatic results if your room is fairly dark.

When your kids are finished playing with the Color Explosion Spinner, you can turn their artwork into bookmarks or greeting cards. My son enjoyed making small notes to give to his grandparents.

Although both my son and I enjoyed using the Crayola Color Explosion spinner, I’ve found refills to be hard to find in my rural community. I’ve found a few places to order them online, but the cost of shipping has been prohibited. The Crayola website advertises ballerina, rocket ship, sparkle wand, and scissor accessory packs for the toy, but does not sell these items. If you’re considering buying the Crayola Color Explosion Spinner for your child, it’s a good idea to make sure you have a convenient way to obtain refills before making the purchase. While the toy will work with drops of watered down acrylic paint and blank index cards, it seems to be the special paper and its accompanying effects that kids really enjoy.
