Have you ever thought to yourself that life would be so much easier if babies came with instruction manuals? While we’ve got access to Google, qualified doctors, and supportive friends to help answer our parenting questions, moms in third-world countries don’t have that luxury. For them, basic questions about breastfeeding, needed immunizations, the warning signs of a serious illness, and other newborn care issues often go unanswered.

The Information Blanket is a product that attempts to help empower mothers to better care for their children by printing critical newborn health information on a brightly printed baby blanket. The blanket is the perfect size for swaddling, made in the US, and white with gender-neutral green ink. At $40, it’s a reasonably priced gift that helps to make a difference in the world at large.

When you buy the Information Blanket for an expectant mom in your life, one will be donated to a mother in need somewhere else in the world. For example, the company recently distributed 250 blankets to mothers in Uganda as part of a campaign to reduce infant mortality rates.

Baby blankets were among my favorite shower gifts when my son was born. It seemed like we were always in need of a soft, warm blanket to cover him with. I would have been thrilled to receive a product like this that I knew was helping women in another country make sure their babies got the best possible start in life.

What do you think of the Information Blanket? Is this a product you’d like to give or receive? We’d love to hear your thoughts!
