I’ve always been a big believer in the philosophy that kids need to have their own quiet place for studying, but finding affordable yet stylish kids furniture always seems to be really difficult. That’s why I was thrilled to find this colorful and modern desk from Mainstays at my local Walmart.

The desk is made from powder coated steel frame with tension bars for added durability. The top is a thick tempered glass. (My son’s desk is blue, but there are actually several different colors you can choose from.)

The desk itself is fairly easy to assemble. I believe it took me about half an hour to put it together and get it moved into my son’s room.

This desk fits nicely in the corner of my son’s room. It gives him plenty of space for study materials, while still leaving a nice play area.

We’ve had the desk for about one year now and it is holding up extremely well. I have a friend who purchased a particle board desk for her child around the same time and that desk is already starting to show signs of wear.

The only real downside to this desk is that it tends to show smudges and fingerprints pretty easily. I clean it with Windex about once a week, but more frequent cleanings might be in order if you’re fussy about such things.

If you can’t find this desk at your local Walmart in the desired color, try ordering online. I’ve used Walmart’s “site to store” fee shipping option many times and never had any troubles.
