Mailables: The Craft You Can Send

Every year for Christmas, we send my husband’s aunts and grandmother a gift card and card from the kids. I always feel like sending a store bought $4 greeting card is not only impersonal but also a waste of money since I know they aren’t going to keep it. So when I ran across Mailables, that took care of my greeting card problem!

Mailables is a family run business that’s dedicated to developing fun, creative craft products that can be sent by mail.  Their products are an excellent way for kids (or anybody!) to send greetings to friends and family in a unique way that they will enjoy receiving. Instead of just sending your run-of-the-mill greeting card, Mailables has a unique take on the greeting card. Choose from a small selection of Mailables (aka cards), color and customize each one for the recipient, and mail in the custom envelope. The person who receives the Mailable gets to assemble and enjoy the card.

I think that young children will like this best. It’s a great coloring activity for them. Not only do they get to use broad brush and detailed coloring skills, but there are also long lines and fine circles to keep their artistic interest.

You can purchase both birthday and seasonal (holiday) Mailables. And at a price of only $1.99, they are cheaper than buying a greeting card and the kids get to have fun decorating it!

There is a downside – there’s not a huge selection of cards to choose from, and all of the birthday ones kind of look the same. When I went to check out their seasonal selection and deal of the day, neither one had any products available. And the new arrivals selection was the same as the birthday selection.

Great idea, great price, limited selection. So I guess it boils down to personal preference. When the holiday cards are available, I’ll definitely be back to check them out — I still think it would be fun for the kids to do, and fun for family to receive!

Will definitely check back, too! Thanks!

I like this. Instead of getting hallmarks best, getting the kids best is always more fun, though I can guarantee you that it ends up in the garbage as well. Perhaps a bit later, but still in the same location.

I love a homemade card so much more than a store-bought one! It’s so nice when a person (especially a child) has gone to the effort and taken pleasure to create something just for me. Homemade all the way!
