LadiesLoop Classifieds

If you’ve ever tried to buy or sell anything on Craigslist, you’ll likely agree when I say the site is a forum for the weird, creepy, scary, and annoying of this world to come out of the woodwork in droves.

Where *were* all of these folks before the internet? The library? I really do wonder.

Anyway, I’ve had a few unsettling encounters with Craigslist. Once, I sold a bunch of Dora the Explorer stuff to a lady and I just got a weird vibe…so I made my husband go do the exchange in a parking lot somewhere. He’s a good guy that way.

LadiesLoop Classifieds is a new service that is aiming to be a safe place for women to buy and sell from one another in their local area.

They have categories that cover all of the major types of merchandise you’d want to sell or buy, plus housing, employment, and even services, events, and classes.

It’s set up the same as Craigslist is…there’s a submission form for ads and approved ads are usually posted within about 24 hours. There’s a member rating feature that allows you to rate a transaction with another member as positive or negative, taking a page from eBay’s member feedback.

What I don’t understand is how they plan to limit the site to ladies only. There are no filters in place or any sort of proof required  that you are, in fact, a chick.

I think if a creepy stalker dude really wants to get on LadiesLoop, it won’t take him much to do so. A member can report harassing behavior via the “contact us” button and there are options to flag posts as illegal or spam, but that’s about it.

The site doesn’t have a ton of listings yet – I didn’t find any in my local area, but there were a lot of health products for sale in Los Angeles.

If you want to check it out, go to LadiesLoop.

Craigslist is pretty creepy! I’ve tried using it once or twice, but it was a lot of scams and I ended up with lots of junk email for my trouble. I have used Kijiji with better results, but found that the arrangements for exchange of goods and payment aren’t really worth the effort. If this site is clean and upscale, it could work; and the feedback on transactions is a good start in te right direction.

I totally agree about Craigslist being sort of a beacon for weirdos! Anytime I need to sell something on there I make my boyfriend do it! I like the idea of LadiesLoop having a member feedback/rating system at least – maybe it can’t make sure of your gender but at least it should help you determine who is probably crazy or sane.
