Kickbee

Imagine being a father-to-be. You’re called away on a business trip right at about the 22 week mark of pregnancy. You’ll be gone a month. You’re bummed, because wifey is starting to look really pregnant and is no longer spending most of her time in the toilet.  You don’t want to miss a thing.

Now imagine being on that business trip, sitting alone in your hotel room. Your smartphone dings. A tweet! From your unborn child? He has just kicked Mommy!

Huh?

Well, that’s the premise behind Kickbee.

Kickbee is a monitor that sits on a pregnant lady’s tummy and senses when kicks occur. The monitor then sends a wireless signal to a nearby computer that’s running a custom Kickbee app. That computer can then be configured to send a tweet to friends, family or spouses that says “I kicked mommy” or something.

I just don’t know about this.

The idea of having one Tweet sent to my husband that the baby kicked is kind of cool.

The idea of  him receiving multiple tweets in the middle of a conference call sounds like a recipe for him to be fired.

The idea of him receiving multiple tweets anywhere sounds like another excuse for him to completely tune me out.

The intention behind this product is really genuine and cool. But I think it’s an overuse of technology. There’s no way that a tweet is going to ever take the place of a husband placing his hand on his wife’s belly and feeling the kick himself.

Besides, what happens when mommy ate too much refried beans? Does that send out a tweet, too?

Kickbee does not appear to be available yet on the open market, but you can check it out here.
