Kathleen Collection Lamp Shade

In the guest room of our house, sitting high on the closet shelf, is a stack of LPs from the 1970s and 1980s.

For those of you who have no idea what an LP is, it’s a long-playing record. A big, unwieldy vinyl album. They’re not easily stored, nor are they easily played anymore!

But what was really cool about albums were their covers. Because they’re more than 4 times the size of a CD jewel case, the artwork was much more intricate and involved.

I remember the first LP I received as a child. It was Billy Joel’s Glass Houses. I’d sit for hours looking at the front and back covers of the album and reading the detailed liner notes and lyrics inside. Album covers truly evolved from being utilitarian into being works of art.

But for those of us in the older-than-35 set, they’ve been relegated to the position of dust collectors – until now!

Why not take what was once a work of art and upcycle it into a new work of art? Well, that’s exactly what the Kathleen Collection Lamp Shade does.

This lamp shade is made of vintage vinyl album jackets. Its dimensions are roughly 13″ x 13″ and the inside diameter is 3″ (fear not, this fits a standard light bulb).

The lamp shade would look great in a playroom, movie or game room – even a college dorm room! Its quirky style and modern flair really breathes new life into an outdated item.

The Kathleen Collection Lamp Shade is available at shopSCAD for $80.

The only thing that would make this lamp shade cooler would be if you could send in your own personal album jackets to have created into a lampshade.

My guest room closet would be so much cleaner!!!
