First it was chalkboard paint; now comes whiteboard paint.

IdeaPaint makes it possible to transform any wall into a giant dry-erase board.

In fact, after just re-doing a tweenagers bedroom, I can personally attest to this product’s epic coolness. Gone are the five (yes, five!) whiteboards she had hung on her walls before – she doesn’t need them now. Instead, she has a surface 10 feet wide and 8 feet high to doodle, draw and write all over. And she couldn’t be happier.

Did I mention that her friends also now think I’m the coolest mom ever? And to think all it took was a little bit of paint!!

It took just one coat to cover her wall and it’s guaranteed not to crack, peel or yellow for the entire time she puts it to good use. When she’s done, we’ll just paint over it – it’s truly that easy. We mixed it right before we painted, used the included roller to apply and let it dry for a week before she took it for its first test run.

We bought her a pack of Dry-Erase markers and an eraser at Staples, as well as a bottle of dry-erase cleaner and that’s all she needed.

To be honest, I’m thinking of using it in our kitchen to replace the dusty chalkboard we currently write phone messages to each other. Free of lead, asbestos, formaldehyde and other harmful materials, I’m fine with using it all over the house if need be (although my husband might get tired of seeing honey-do lists in every room) without worrying that the baby might put her mouth on it.

Available in two different kit sizes for 6 or 20 square feet, you can buy as much or as little as you like and customize it to fit any space. Sold online and at major home supply stores, prices start at $29.99.
