When I’m doing my holiday shopping, I like to look for gifts that “give back” to a worthy cause. If you have any little girls or stylish female friends on your shopping list this year, check out Headbands of Hope. This site sells adorable headbands with flower, glitter, and other fun embellishments.
Jessica Ekstrom, the founder of Headbands of Hope, started the site after a college internship with the Make a Wish Foundation.
After spending time with young girls who had lost their hair from chemotherapy, she wanted to do something to help them reclaim their feminine identity during what was undoubtedly the most stressful time of their young lives. Providing the girls with pretty headbands was a way to help reassure them that they’d always be beautiful.
With every purchase, Headbands of Hope donates a headband to a young girl undergoing treatment for cancer. They will also make a $1 donation to the St. Baldricks Foundation, an organization supporting research for treatment for childhood cancer patients.
Kids headbands at Headbands of Hope measure 15 inches. Adult headbands are 18 inches. Most styles come in both children and adult sizes, so this would be a cute “Mommy and Me” photo prop if you are lucky enough to have a daughter who is into such things.
In addition to the regular headband styles, Headbands of Hope also has a couture partner that creates headbands for weddings and other formal occasions.
What do you think of the Headbands of Hope? Is this something you’d purchase for yourself or your daughter?
