I love to read and buy books, so it seems like I’m perpetually in search of more bookcases for my house. Even though I love my Kindle, the books still keep multiplying! And, of course, my son knows he can almost always talk mom into getting him books at the store. (I’m great at saying “no” to toys, but children’s books with pretty pictures are my weakness.)

These Guidecraft Playhouse Hideaway Bookshelves from Linens-N-Things are way out of my price range, but something I know my son would love! He is always making forts from extra blankets and crawling between them to read a story, draw a picture, or play with his stuffed animals. If you have the space and can swing the price, this would be the perfect addition to your child’s room to encourage that sort of imaginative behavior.

This product is made from a Baltic Birch frame and supposedly requires a moderate degree of assembly. Given that information, I do wonder if it would be possible to make a similar version for less.

I think this would be a wonderful product if you could fit a twin bed in between the frame so your child could have his own private hideaway at night. It would also be cool to be able to swap out the curtain colors. While I do like the bright blue it comes with, I’m sure many parents would prefer a more diverse color palette.

What do you think? Is this something you would like for your son or daughter’s room? If so, would you purchase it or try to make your own?
