If you’ve been reading Smart Mom Picks for any length of time, then you probably know how much I like to share “green” sites with you…those sites that promote green living and are earth friendly. I can’t say I’m 100% green but I do what I can, when I can to help leave this world just a little better than when I got here. I recently ran across GreenToys.com and thought I’d share it with you.

If you check out their “About” page, you’ll find this:

We believe the world would be a much better place if everyone said “please” and “thank you”, cell phones didn’t ring during movies, and all toys were fun, safe, and made from environmentally friendly materials. Since it’s probably no use holding our breath for those first two, we’re concentrating on the toys.

I love that! And without getting into too much detail about how the toys are all produced in California, a state known for strict toy safety and environmental laws, or that Green Toys products are packaged in recycled corrugated boxes with no plastics, cellophane or twist-ties, and are 100% recyclable, I did want to tell you a cool fact about the toys. Green Toys uses recycled milk containers as the main ingredient in creating the toys (yep, the plastic milk jugs that your family probably drinks from every day.)

You can see a running total of milk jugs that Green Toys has recycled to date on their "Green" page!

There’s a large selection of toys including jump ropes, indoor gardening kits, dump trucks, cars, tea sets, tool sets and more.

Are these toys pricey? Maybe a bit – the jump ropes I mentioned cost $10.99. Is it worth it to me to pay a bit more for green products? Absolutely! How do you feel about it?
