I’m about to introduce you to some chocolate you’re going to want to hide away and sneak nibbles of when it’s too early for wine to enter the picture (though it does pair well with red wine).

It’s the Ghirardelli Chocolate Intense Dark Cabernet Matinee. Rush out and get some right now, because apparently word got out in my town and everybody snatched it off the shelves. I haven’t been able to get a second bar of it yet because it’s never there. It’s tragic, really.

You have to love dark chocolate to enjoy this, of course, because as the name suggests, it’s pretty intense. I don’t personally think it’s exceptionally bitter or anything, but I have a pretty high tolerance for very dark chocolate.

The blackberries and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes detract a little bit from the chocolate enough to make it more palatable, so I can see a lot of people enjoying this even if they aren’t the biggest fans of really dark chocolate.

It’s a little tart, not completely bash-you-over-the-head sweet and/or bitter. It’s still intense, though, so you may be able to get away with just one square at a time. Hooray for portion control (I’m usually terrible with that).

If you’re lucky enough to find it, stock up. It doesn’t appear to be discontinued—in fact, I think it’s fairly new–but it’s nowhere to be found in my town. You can purchase it online, but Ghirardelli chocolate bars are also available in most grocery stores and drugstores.
