My son, like most kids today, struggles with the idea of being patient. He’s been raised in the age of microwave meals and high speed Internet, so being asked to wait even five minutes for something seems like an eternity.

To help him get used to the idea of delayed gratification, I’ve been looking for things we can do together that are fun yet practical. Miracle-Gro Kids products definitely fit the bill.

Recently, Miracle-Gro Kids invited us to test out their new Root Viewer from Peachtree Playthings. This is a toy that lets kids grow radishes, carrots, and onions in a special mini garden that has a clear side so they can see what the plant looks like below the surface. You use a cardboard shield to cover the clear side when you’re not looking at the roots so the seeds can continue to grow normally.

It’s easy to set up the planter and plant the seeds using the specially formulated Miracle-Gro Gro-Mix, although my seven-year-old son wasn’t thrilled by the initial planting.

However, once we could see the roots, he became much more interested in watching the process and learning more about how a garden grows. (The Root Viewer includes an illustrated growth chart to help kids learn about plant growth and root systems.) He was very excited when our first radish finally peeked through to the surface!

In addition to the Root Viewer, the Miracle-Gro Kids product line also includes a Gravity Gro Station for growing tomatoes, a Windowsill Greenhouse for flowers, a Disney Mickey Mouse Greenhouse, and a ModPot Planter.

For little girls, there are Disney Fairies and Disney Princess items, too. The suggested retail price for most of the items is $12.99 and they are recommended for children ages five and up.

What do you think of the Miracle-Gro Kids product line from Peachtree Playthings?

And my kids are not into gardening, but this would be very cool for them to see what’s happening and get a feeling for the little miracle of how fresh vegetables grow!

Cool. We do a lot of gardening in the spring/summer and my kids love it.
