Lip balm’s just lip balm, right? Nah. I used to be a chapstick girl, but then I got hooked on watching makeup videos on YouTube one summer.
The women on there kept talking about Fresh Sugar Tinted Lip Treatment with SPF 15 and I thought they had been brainwashed into paying $18 for it simply because it was “special” lip balm in a pretty package from Sephora. Eventually, I gave in, though, as I often do (sucker!) and I fell in love.
I still have a Sugar Rose one in my purse to this day. Other available colors include: Sugar Coral, Sugar Passion, Sugar Honey, and Sugar Plum. There’s also a clear one, which is perfect for layering underneath your lipstick.
The tint is light but it does make about as much difference on my lips as your average lipgloss, but they aren’t especially pigmented. If your lips are pretty pigmented, you might not notice much of a change in color.
The smell is divine and reminds me of lemonade, so it’s sweet with a kick. It moisturizes and really sinks in instead of sitting on top of your lips and creating a barrier. You know it’s there because your lips are soft and feel healthy, but it doesn’t feel like you have something on your lips.
The ingredients list includes sugar, a blend of oils, and vitamins A, C, and E. The SPF 15 (from avobenzone and octinoxate) is a bonus in a product like this because it’s something you can throw on without any other makeup (to go to the beach, for example) and perk up your face while protecting your lips from the sun.
I love putting this on my lips and a moisturizer with SPF all over the rest of my face and neck before I take my daughter to the park. With sunglasses, nothing else is necessary. It’s low maintenance pretty.
