Fresh Baby Makes Portion Control Easier

My son is no longer a toddler, but I would be first in line to buy the So-Easy toddler cookbook and plate set if he was. Fresh Baby, a partner of the USDA, has created this set to help parents promote good eating habits.

The cookbook has healthy recipes made to appeal to tiny taste buds. The plate provides visual cues to make sure your child is getting enough food from each of the major food groups. The plate is based on the “Choose My Plate” icon that replaces the “Food Pyramid” you probably remember learning about in elementary and middle school.

The toddler cookbook and plate set is available in both English and Spanish. The plate itself is lead, BPA, and phthalate-free. It is tested for formaldehyde and FDA-approved food safe.

Fresh Baby also sells this plate individually, as well as a plate in an adult size. I would love to replace my regular dishes with something like this. I try to fix healthy meals, but getting everyone to eat the proper amounts of fruits and veggies is a constant struggle. And, unlike children, I’m not very good at telling myself when to stop eating. My body might not need any more spaghetti, but if I’m eating at my desk, I can down a huge plate full of pasta in about 10 minutes.

The Fresh Baby website says you can find their products online through Amazon or Diapers.com, at Walmart stores, and at Target stores nationwide. I have not seen this product for sale in my area, but it’s definitely something I’ll be watching out for.

Have you seen the Fresh Baby plates in your area? Is this an item you’d buy for your family?

This is so simple, it’s brilliant. A no-brainer way to remind a harried mom to fill her little one’s plate the right way. I used to try to do this at every meal, but this segmented plate with visuals would have been very helpful.

You’re right, a more adult version (for school age and tweens) would also be helpful as a reminder to growing kids that they should be mindful of what they are eating daily. SMART.

Great idea for instilling portion control. Also ove the idea of a plate for adults (I could certainly use this!). It always amazes me how little fills up the recommended serving size.

    I agree with Lucy – I would love an adult-sized plate! :)
