FlattenMe Personalized Storybooks

Kids are narcissistic. It’s all about them. That is why there is such a huge market for personalized kids’ items. They love, love, love seeing their names and pictures on stuff. We’ve covered a few of those types of items here in past posts – lunchboxes, backpacks, blankets, you name it.

Today, we’re taking a look at personalized storybooks from FlattenMe.

I have to say that normally I’m pretty underwhelmed by personalized items. They always seem patched together and a bit on the cheap-looking side. But these books look absolutely beautiful.

The concept is simple – you select one of the book choices. upload a high-resolution photo of your child’s face and hair, write a dedication for the dedication page, and wait while FlattenMe works its magic. Your child’s face will appear all over the chosen storybook – which takes about 1-2 weeks to make.

There are several different cool book choices to pick from (including some for adults) – all with the themes that you’d expect for children’s books – mermaids, pirates, bugs, etc.

Here’s an example of  what an interior page of the mermaid book would look like.

The colors and images look really rich and vivid – not cheap. The mermaid book has a really cute rhyming pattern to the story text. My daughter would love this.

The one for grownup men, called Sir Perfect and Me, allegedly makes a great wedding shower gift. I’m not sure about that, but the story is pretty funny.

FlattenMe personalized storybooks run about $27.95 – so while you won’t be creating an entire library of these, they do make a neat gift for a special occasion or even to try and encourage a child to start reading.

It’s true, the personalization does help sometimes. I have one child who’s an avid reader, and other who is much more reluctant. I saw a noticable difference when I pulled out a Christmas story his grandmother had ordered for him that had his name all over the story. He perked right up and was more interested in reading it than other books of the same genre.
