I don’t like having to pick up dried bits of Play-Doh off my carpet, but I do admit that actually playing with the stuff is fun. Even as an adult, I find myself fascinated with some of the cool sets Play-Doh has come up with. The Swirling Shake Shoppe is one of their newest offerings for Summer 2012.
This is a very cute Play-Doh set because it builds well upon the play kitchen concept. If your child loves play food, this will likely be a hit. And, for my son at least, he considers playing pretend kitchen with the Play-Doh set less “girly” than playing with actual plastic or wood pretend food.
There are lots of different molds in the Shake Shoppe play set, so you should be able to get several hours of playtime from this toy. It is helpful to have lots of Play-Doh on hand, however. When the kids “mix” their ice cream creations, the colors get blended together quickly and you have a strangely colored lump of clay. I tried to convince my son it was just chocolate, but he wasn’t falling for it.
I know a lot of moms like to use Play-Doh sets to keep their little ones occupied while they are doing chores in other areas of the home, but I wouldn’t try that with this particular set if you have very young children. The ice cream shop concept is cute, but I think the temptation to try to eat your creations might be hard for some kids to resist.
