Ecotots Beach Locker

Ecotots Beach Locker

Here’s what I know for certain after writing for awhile here at Smart Mom Picks.

Eco-friendly furniture is not cheap.

But Pottery Barn Kids isn’t exactly value priced, either. Every time we hear the bottom drawer on my daughter’s PB Kids overpriced dresser squeak and not open properly, we cringe at what we paid for it.

The price of this Ecotots Beach Locker makes me cringe a little bit, too. But it’s smartly designed, I’ll give it that.

This Beach Locker is scaled down in size to address the needs (and height) of little ones. It measures 26″ wide by 55″ high so even the top of this item is reachable for a little kid. Which can be a good thing and a bad thing, speaking as a parent who’s had a dresser tip over onto her kid.

It’s described as “eco-friendly to the max.” It uses soy based adhesives and non-toxic water based wood stains. The plywood is formaldehyde-free sustainable birch. It’s made in the USA and the finishes are UV-cured to minimize greenhouse gases. Cool.

From a functional standpoint, it’s got two hooks for kids to hang their coats or backpacks and two low shelves, one of which could be used as a seating bench. Or a makeshift stepstool to get to dangerous high things in the room, right?

One final plus to this Beach Locker is that it’s a no-tools assembly. And if you’ve ever tried to assemble something from Ikea, you will appreciate that greatly.

The Beach Locker comes in 4 finishes – natural, red, brown and green. For the not-so-low price of $375, this little beauty can be yours. The bonus is that when you purchase it from Organic Bug, shipping is free within the continental U.S. -  not bad considering the unit weighs over 50 pounds. Pottery Barn would hit you up for a surcharge on an item that heavy.

You can check out the Ecotots Beach Locker at Organic Bug.

I like the idea of a kids’ cubby for the mudroom, but seriously, you could get your husband to build you one for $30 worth of wood. No it wouldn’t look as nice, but as far as coats, backpacks and dirty running shoes goes, who cares, right?

I don’t have that much place for this. I work well with hooks.
