Eco-Friendly Tableware and Utensils

Sometimes I feel like I have to worry about every.single.thing. I buy for my kids and wonder whether or not it’s safe. It’s as if everywhere I look, another product or chemical has been deemed dangerous or toxic or cancer-causing.

One needs a chemistry degree these days to go shopping and be able to make sense of it all!

We love eco-friendly products at Smart Mom Picks, and the one I found today is really cool.

These are BPA-free divided plates from Dandelion. They are made from a corn bioplastic formula! Neat.

Using corn to make reusable plates like these means the manufacturer is using renewable and sustainable processes, and that’s huge.

The plates are Phthalate and PVC-free too, so you can put your mind at ease. They’re sized just right for infants and toddlers, and with a little handwashing (and no microwaving!) you can use them over and over again. They come 2 to a pack for $7.99.

Dandelion also sells the matching bowls – two to a pack for $7.99.

And there’s a utensil set that you can get as well, which includes four forks and four deep-well spoons, for $7.99.

For $25 and shipping, you can purchase these great items…and some peace of mind, too. We’ve reviewed some other eco-friendly tableware before, but I don’t think we’ve come across anything specifically designed for infants and toddlers, like these are.

Purchase these corn-based items at Dandelion.

Nice! I agree, all the chemicals in plastics for children is very worrying. Can these only be purchased online?

I try to stay on top of all of it too, but it is definitely tough to keep up with the latest developments sometimes! And super worrisome! Grocery shopping has become a stressful situation indeed – trying to balance buying what is sustainably made and doesn’t have crazy toxins that will kill me, etc, is a job in and of itself!

I hadn’t heard of the Dandelion brand before – thanks for the tip!

i got 4 sets of these in 2009 while pregnant with my son. They break easily even in toddler hands and to me are not worth it. the only nice thing i have to say about this is the shape of the spoon. it keeps a lot in and is perfect for mashed up food. it was a good thing i had 4 though.

This site has some eco-friendly melamine plates. I ordered two last December as a gift for my nieces. They loved them!
