Dweebies Card Game
One of my favorite things to do with my kids is play board and card games. The only exception to this rule is Chutes and Ladders, which I find to be the most annoying and fight-inducing game on the planet. But overall, we love games and I’m constantly trying to find new and fun ones to play with my kids.
This new card game, called Dweebies, caught my eye because of the funny characters pictured on the cards and the catchy title. Dweebies just sounds like it would be fun, doesn’t it?
Dweebies is a card game for ages 8 and up. It appears to be a bit of a play on dominoes. The cards picture various Dweebie characters. As cards are played, you try to match a Dweebie at the beginning of one line of cards by playing the matching Dweebie at the opposite end of the line. If you make an end-to-end match, you get to collect all of the cards in that line.
Whoever has the most cards at the end of the game wins.
I read through the rules and it appears to be much trickier to actually make matches and win the game than it appears at first blush.
I think this is one of those games that could easily be played with a 5 or 6 year-old, too. Even though a 5 year-old wouldn’t understand the strategic component of the game for a few more years, they could still enjoy trying to make the matches and collect cards. I imagine the rules of the game could even be modified slightly to accommodate younger players. We do that a lot in our house!
I like the critical thinking component of the game and learning to plan your moves ahead of time to maximize the number of cards you collect.
Dweebies is sold by Gamewright, which is a game company known for its fantastic card, puzzle and board games. Dweebies has already won a bunch of awards, too. I may pick this up as a little stocking stuffer for my 7 year-old this year!
You can purchase Dweebies at Gamewright’s website.
