Crazy Tower

We’ve featured several different block sets here at Smart Mom Picks. There are so many different styles and types to choose from. I like block sets that have varied sizes and textures.

My kids are pretty much past the block stage but for some reason I have a hard time throwing the blocks away when I do my closet purges.

They’re just one of those toys that you want to keep around. Every now and then, my kids will pull them out and build a crazy creation.

I just happened upon this Crazy Tower block set from HAPE International.

I love it because it’s really unusual.

It’s actually more of a plate balancing set than a traditional block set! It comes with flat disks in different colors, and cylindrical pillars as well. Additionally, there are a couple of little character blocks that can help support the disks.

There are lots of different ways to stack these. A younger baby can just stack the disks or the cylinders by themselves. Toddlers can start to learn balance and weighting by working with both the disks and the pillars. And preschoolers on up can have a blast seeing how tall the tower can go.

This set is great, solid, educational fun.

My only issue? It was really tough to get specific information about the set – what sort of wood it’s made of, how many total pieces are included, and so on. The manufacturer doesn’t give a ton of details and neither do the handful of sites that carry this product.

You can buy the Crazy Tower for $31.99 at Scholar’s Choice, which is a Canadian online retailer.

Scholar’s Choice stores focus on toys and games that have an educational bent, and therefore is a good place to look for different items that can stimulate a smart kid’s mind and is also a good resource for teachers.
